Money Manager vs AI Budget Assistant: Which Fits You?

“Money Manager” is the name of more than one app. The well-known one is Money Manager Expense & Budget by Realbyte, which its own site says has passed 20 million downloads on Google Play. A different, simpler app with the same name also exists, with its own export format. This article compares AI Budget Assistant with the Realbyte app. If you use the other one, the comparison is looser, but the import section below applies to both.

What we say about Money Manager comes from Realbyte’s website and its App Store listing, checked in October 2026. Plans and prices change, so confirm them in the store before you decide.

Which is better for me, Money Manager or AI Budget Assistant?

Pick Money Manager if you like a detailed manual ledger, want an iOS app, and are happy to enter everything yourself. Pick AI Budget Assistant if typing every transaction is what makes you quit: it lets you chat, speak or photograph a receipt instead, and it adds shared accounts and a web version. Both support budgets and multiple currencies, so the difference is mostly in how entries get in.

Think about how you used your last budgeting app. If you enjoyed the bookkeeping itself, a ledger-style app suits you. If you gave up after a few weeks, lowering the effort of capture is the more useful change.

What is the difference in price?

Money Manager is free to use, with in-app purchases; on the US App Store its subscription, which includes data sync, is listed at $2.49 a month or $19.99 a year. AI Budget Assistant is free to start, with 50 AI requests a month, and Pro costs $4.99 a month or $29.99 a year with a 7-day trial. Money Manager is cheaper if you only need a ledger; ours covers AI and sharing.

Can I import my Money Manager data?

Yes. Export your data from Money Manager as a CSV file and upload it in the import section. AI Budget Assistant reads both Money Manager shapes (the full Realbyte-style export, which keeps category and subcategory, and the simpler one with title and note columns), plus the near-identical 1Money export. Your categories come across as you built them, and you see a preview before anything is saved.

What does not travel: budgets, recurring rules and receipt photos that live only inside Money Manager. We have not been able to test every export variant, so skim the preview. Overlapping uploads are safe, because duplicates are detected. The full walkthrough is in switching from Monefy, Wallet or Money Manager, so we will not repeat it here.

When is Money Manager the better choice?

Money Manager is the better choice in these cases:

When is AI Budget Assistant the better choice?

It fits better when entry effort is your obstacle. Say “coffee and a sandwich, 24” or scan a receipt, and the expense is filled in; ask the chat “how much did I spend on groceries this month?” and get an answer from your data. You can share an account with a partner or family, use the web version on a laptop, and switch the interface among nine languages.

The limits: no native iOS app, no live bank connection (you import statements, and on Android a bank notification can be captured), and no offline use on the web. If you are weighing several apps, the best budgeting apps compared gives the wider picture, and the guide to shared budgets for couples covers the sharing side.
